Description

NGC 6960, the Western Veil Nebula, is part of the Cygnus Loop, a large but relatively faint supernova remnant. The source supernova exploded some 5,000 to 8,000 years ago and the remnant has been expanding ever since. This nebula mainly consists of hydrogen, sulfur, which are represented by the red cloud in the picture, and oxygen, which is represented in blue‐green.
